NY Ball-Handle Reel Key to List

  • No.: Order in which photographs were posted
  • Initials: Maker initials marked on reel
  • Name: Maker name marked on reel
  • Other Markings: Other marks on reel headcap
  • Location: Maker location marked on reel
  • Metal: Metal comprising reel frame – BR:brass, GS: German silver NPB: nickel-plated brass
  • Diameter, in.: diameter of reel headcap in inches
  • Spool width, in.: distance between headplate and tailplate in inches
  • Arbor Shoulders: shape of shoulders at joints of arbors and spool flanges
  • Crank Position: approximate location of crankshaft on headcap, o’clock
  • Crank Collar: shape of crank collar base
  • Crank Knob: Material of crank knob (grasp)
  • Foot Intersection: where the foot of one-piece cast reel foot meets the edge of the crossbridge
Foot Joints
  • Bridge: top surface of crossbridge, flat or curved (concave)
  • Foot Marks: marks on reel foot, e.g., index marks, size numbers, maker name
  • Oil Cap: shape of tailplate oil cap – cyl.: cylindrical, pat. adjust.: patented adjustable
