$40.00

9.5” x 8” • Softcover • 103 Total Pages • Full Color Throughout

This book, put together by long-time collectors Betty Barr and Don Kleier with photographer Gene Burch, Crafting & Casting tells the story of how two brothers from Danville, KY., Jonathan and Benjamin Meek, moved to Frankfort and set up a jewelry, watch, and clock business on Main Street in the early 1830s. Responding to Judge Mason Brown’s request for an improved fishing reel, they created the first 4 to 1 multiplying reel that quickly became a favorite of gentlemen anglers around central Kentucky. By 1904, the Frankfort KY Reel had received four medals at World’s Fairs and Expositions and put Frankfort on the world map. This book shares the stories of the six men who made these exquisite hand-crafted reels, how they made them, and what tools they used.
